Mark Trimble won in impressive fashion in a recent jury trial tried in the Ottawa County Court of Common Pleas (Buttrey v. Zupan). The case involved the Plaintiff alleging negligence against RTZ’s client, Defendant Zupan, who was docking his boat when the Plaintiff, Defendant Zupan’s sister-in-law, and passenger, got her hand caught between Defendant’s boat and a second boat, resulting in a de-gloving injury. The Plaintiff alleged permanent injuries and lack of use, resulting in her last pre-trial demand of $750,000. At trial, the Plaintiff increased her demand to the jury and requested $1.35 million dollars. Prior to trial, the Defendant offered $125,000 and the jury returned a verdict of $100,000.
